Marlins manager Freddy Gonzalez was fired today along with hitting coach Jim Presley and bench coach Carlos Tosca. Promoted to interim manager is Edwin Rodriguez of Florida's triple-A affiliate in New Orleans, but I wouldn't expect Rodriguez to remain manager for long. Marlins President David Samson contacted former MLB manager Bobby Valentine this morning about the opening and Valentine has since withdrawn his name from consideration for the open Baltimore Orioles manager position. "The Marlins last switched managers in midseason in 2003, when Jack McKeon was named to replace Jeff Torborg in May. The club went on to win the World Series, beating the Yankees in six games."
Bobby Valentine, former Mets manager, disguised in dugout after being tossed.
Gonzalez had previously been the Braves' third base coach. The Atlanta native had signed a contract extension through 2011 in '09, but he is now expected to replace Bobby Cox after he retires at the end of the season.
Stephen Strasburg keeps breaking strikeout records today against KC, and gets his first hit.
Jerry Seinfeld and Keith Hernandez reunite! Seinfeld will be in the booth with Hernandez tonight for the Mets/Tigers game. No Magic Loogies here, but Jerry did voice his distaste with Lady Gaga stealing his Citi Field private box on New York's WFAN.
And also this, thanks to Brett...
